Writing on the Walls debuts March 2020, producing the largest mural in Austin:
a collaboration between Sandra Chevrier and Shepard Fairey
From March 4th through 11th, the city of Austin (Texas) will be hosting Writing on the Walls, a series of collaborative public art installations and events. Led by the Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation*, this project aims to elevate the importance of art, diversity and public spaces for the community. This year’s theme is inspired by the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, resulting to a women's empowerment-rooted program designed to celebrate them and commemorate History.
Among the week’s highlights is a new mural that will become the largest in Austin and bring Sandra Chevrier and Shepard Fairey into their first collaboration.
Sandra Chevrier and Shepard Fairey will produce an iconic 12-story mural that will be painted on the west side of The LINE Hotel. This project strengthens the values of collaboration and gender equality. These internationally acclaimed artists created a design that fuses both their styles, incorporating iconography that evokes the power of women as well as a significant moment in the History of women’s rights in the US.
In addition to permanent landmarks such as Chevrier and Fairey’s mural, this first week of March will also incorporate workshops, documentary screenings and panel discussions with female leaders. “This project is the result of months of collaboration with partners in Austin and internationally. The events and art installations will spark curiosity, interest and community engagement throughout downtown Austin. Ils produiront ensemble une murale emblématique de 12 étages qui sera peinte sur le côté ouest de l'hôtel LINE. Ce projet renforce les valeurs de collaboration et d'égalité des sexes. Ces artistes de renommée internationale ont créé pour cette occasion un design qui fusionne leurs deux styles, incorporant une iconographie qui évoque le pouvoir des femmes ainsi qu'un moment marquant dans l'histoire des droits des femmes aux Etats-Unis.
En plus d'oeuvres permanentes telles que cette murale de Chevrier et Fairey, cette première semaine de mars comprendra également des ateliers, des projections de documentaires et des tables rondes avec des femmes leaders. « Ce projet est le résultat de mois de collaboration avec des partenaires à Austin et à l'international. Les événements et les installations artistiques susciteront la curiosité, l'intérêt et l'engagement communautaire dans le centre-ville d'Austin.
